Main tasks to complete the migration:

Migrating the Meta (Facebook) pixel to the “Facebook & Instagram” channel:

  • Install the “Facebook & Instagram” channel:
  • In the Shopify admin, go to Sales channels > Facebook & Instagram.
  • If the channel is not yet installed, click Add sales channel and select Facebook & Instagram.

Set up the channel:

  • Follow the instructions to connect your Facebook account and complete the channel setup.
  • During setup, connect your existing Meta pixel.

Verify the pixel connection:

  • Make sure the pixel ID used in the “Facebook & Instagram” channel matches the one previously added on the Preferences page.
  • If the pixel IDs do not match, remove the unnecessary pixel to avoid duplicate data tracking.

Migrating the Google Analytics pixel to the “Google & YouTube” channel:

Install the “Google & YouTube” channel:

  • In the Shopify admin, go to Sales channels > Google & YouTube.
  • If the channel is not yet installed, click Add sales channel and select Google & YouTube.

Set up “Google Analytics 4 (GA4)”:

  • If you do not yet have GA4, create a new GA4 account in your Google Analytics account.
  • Enter the GA4 measurement ID in the “Google & YouTube” channel to connect it to your Shopify store.

Verify the measurement ID:

  • Make sure the ID entered in the “Google & YouTube” channel matches your GA4 account.
  • If there are any discrepancies, update the ID in the channel settings.

Important considerations:

  • Deadline: The migration must be completed by February 2, 2025. After this date, manually added pixels will become “custom” pixels, which may have limited functionality.
  • Removing old pixel code: After migration, remove the old pixel code from theme.liquid, checkout.liquid (if you use Shopify Plus), or the Additional scripts settings to avoid duplicate tracking.
  • Testing: After migration, perform testing to ensure that the pixels are working correctly and that data is being tracked accurately.

These steps will help ensure that your store’s data tracking remains accurate and complies with Shopify’s new standards.
